If you want to relax and unwind, the best thing to do is to visit a spa. In the spa, you have the option to get a massage, take a dip in the Jacuzzi, even socialize with other people who want to relax. But of all the activities you can do in a spa, the most beneficial activity is using the sauna.
Saunas are steam baths or infrared that are meant to relax and detoxify your body. The history of the sauna is pretty simple. The sauna was invented in Finland. Saunas are a very big part of Finnish culture. Because of the cold weather in that part of the world, the Finnish invented the sauna to keep warm, and at the same time, detoxify. These days, saunas are not only found in Finland, but all over the world. These are mostly visible in spas and health clubs.
Traditionally, saunas wood heaters used heaters, stones and water to get things heated. Basically, what happens is the heater evaporates water sprinkled onto it, thus heating the air inside the sauna. This is called the conventional heater.
The only problem with this type of wood sauna heater is that the humid air inside the sauna makes it difficult to breathe at times. Sometimes, you might have a hard time breathing after sprinkling too much water on the wood sauna heater.
Thanks to technology and physics, there is now an alternate way of heating in saunas. There is a new sauna heater that uses no water and no stones. Instead of heating the air, it heats up objects directly. This is called the infrared or far infrared heater. An IR or FIR sauna heats things up the same way microwave ovens do. It uses energy waves to heat you up. This means you will no longer have difficulty breathing due to the air inside the sauna being too humid.
Of course, a lot of people still prefer the conventional wood sauna heater over the infrared heater. They say the conventional heater is safer, more natural and has better health benefits.
Some people feel like the combination of the heated air, eucalyptus-infused water and the lumber used for the sauna housing creates an ambience and smell that defines the very word sauna. Each has his own preference, but whatever you use, one thing is for sure: Going to a sauna is the best way to unwind, de-stress and detoxify.
